PODCAST 269 FROM CKW/DONSPODRADIO
January 24, 2012 07:17 PM PST
Friends: It has been a wild and windy day here on the west coast of British Columbia and during the recording of this week's podcast, our electricity was anything but stable, causing several audio outages throughout the show. Were it not for the amazing technology I now use to construct each weekly program, I would have never been able to get this show "in the can." Basically, what I ended up doing is taking seven segments of programming and stitching them all together into one flawless file for this week's show. So, after a whole lot of extra work, the podcast is listenable and presentable. I do hope you enjoy this week's show. DON'T FORGET, COMING SOON - SMILE 101. James Murphy has assembled an amazing group of presenters and will be going "live" with this streaming audio internet radio station FEBRUARY 14 - tune in to http://smile101.net to listen to the test streams and then bookmark this amazing site for 24/7 streaming audio from the U.K. We will be a part of the line-up and when I have a schedule of the programming, I will pass it along. Meanwhile, stay right where you are for this week's show. And please ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE OF CKW. Here is this week's TRAX LIST Stoned Love - The Supremes
Cheers Don PODCAST 268 FROM CKW/DONSPODRADIO
January 18, 2012 01:10 PM PST
Friends: Well, it couldn't last - the rain that is! A cold snap has settled on the lower mainland of British Columbia and besides a few inches of the white stuff, we now have very cold temperatures. Last night, with the wind chill, it dropped in some areas, to minus 20 Celcius - that is minus 4 for you Fahrenheit folk. Pretty cold for the west coast, that's for sure. So what better way to pass a cold day away than to be with you, spinning some of the Greatest Music of All Time. Soundtrack of the 60's this week, features some hits from 1968 - and our Double Play of the week features Ricky Nelson. Al, James, Michael and I are all here, and except for the Retrospective commentaries, Rock and Roll News and Sport de Jour, the music is continuous. So, what are you waiting for - click on one of the links and give us a listen. And, here is a heads up! CKW will be joining the line-up on SMILE 101 which debuts FEBRUARY 14. Check out the test stream which is running now - http://smile101.net You will be glad you did.... Thanks for listening Here is this week's TRAX LIST

January 11, 2012 01:10 PM PST
Friends: By now I would think everyone is back to work and school and the only lingering thoughts of the holidays are how to pay the bills - if you have any. This week, more great tunes from the podcasters you can trust to keep your toes tapping, your fingers snapping and your body movin' and a-groovin.' SOUNDTRACK OF THE 60' is now a feature part of the programming and you can hear all your favourite 60's tunes right after Rock and Roll News at the bottom of the hour. Ever wonder if the big guy can sing? I will let you decide. at 1:09:25 on your counter I play a tune I dug out from the archives - a tune that I recorded a couple of years ago - me and the CKW Philharmonic Orchestra - and what a squeeze it was to get all those musicians in this tiny studio. Have a listen, have a laugh..... Enjoy the show, and thanks for listening. Here is this week's TRAX LIST Hand Me Down World - Guess Who

January 04, 2012 01:47 PM PST
Friends: HAPPY NEW YEAR and with it another podcast from your friends here at CKW - powered of course, by DonsPodRadio. After a couple of weeks off, the whole crew is back with some great sounds to kick off the new year. I know you are going to enjoy this program. And, as mentioned on the podcast, I will mention it here as well - the format has once again been tweaked. From the start of the program to the bottom of the hour, you will hear a great mix of music - tunes from the '50s right through the '80's. Then, after the Rock and Roll News at the bottom of the hour, we will launch into a new segment - SOUNDTRACK OF THE SIXTIES. During this 30 minutes, to the top of the hour, you will hear nothing but the greatest hits of that wonderful era. At the top of the hour, this DJ's Double Play is back, and then a couple of tunes to the show wrap at around the 75 minute mark. Al, James, and Michael are all here, right where you are now well accustomed to hearing them - nothing has changed there. So, for A LITTLE ROCK and A LITTLE TALK it does pay to BOOKMARK OUR PODCAST and listen each week. December 07, 2011 06:53 PM PST
Friends: Here is this week's "first week of December" podcast. Noticeably missing are seasonal tunes - those we will begin playing next week! So, for you who are already pretty tired of the same 100 Christmas tunes being played in a never ending rotation on some radio stations and in all the malls, here is a break from that format. I truly hope you do enjoy this week's show. CHRISTMAS??? Definitely not forgotten here at CKW/DonsPodRadio. If you scroll down to the "podcast" right below this one on the PODOMATIC site, you will find SIX - YES 6 - hour long files of nothing but the finest Christmas and Seasonal music you will hear anywhere. And, as an added bonus, on FILE 3 the lead tune is CHRISTMAS SNOW - words and melody by my daughter Stephanie - arranged and sung by our very own AL MURPHY. I know you will enjoy what is fast becoming a Christmas Classic here at the radio station. If you download these files and either burn them to CD's or capture them on your MP3 player, all you have to do is SET THEM AND FORGET THEM - you will have some great music for hours on end. Next week, our midweek podcast will be light and lively - the lighter side of the season. Then, on December 21, a more traditional approach to the reason for the season. Finally, the very last podcast of the year - simply a MAN AND HIS MUSIC - Al, James and Michael will be off on well deserved breaks and I will spin 75 minutes of non stop, wall to wall music for your "between Christmas and New Years" entertainment and enjoyment. Please enjoy the celebration of the season - HAVE A COOL YULE and no, I am not at all afraid to say it..... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. HERE IS THIS WEEK'S TRAX LIST Captain of Her Heart - Double

Friends: WELCOME TO PODCAST 260 FROM YOUR FRIENDS AT DONSPODRADIO. This program marks our 5th anniversary, and while it took almost 6 years to get there, with time off for good behavior, it has been quite a ride. First, let me explain, this podcast is a LABOUR OF LOVE - those of us who get together week to week, do so because we love the medium and love what we do! Yes, it is really all about the musc, but obviously there are quite a few of you who not only like A LITTLE ROCK but appreciate A LITTLE TALK as well. There were over 10,000 downloads over the first half of this year, and since starting up in September, that trend is continuing. Not bad for what is essentially, just a hobby! Al and James join me today in celebrating the 260th mid-week signature podcast from CKW (powered, of course, by DonsPodRadio). Join us this week as we deviate ever so slightly from the regular format to bring you our ANNIVERSARY/BIRTHDAY PROGRAM CLICK, LISTEN AND ENJOY - and thank you everyone for tuning us in! 260 TRAX LIST

Friends: I always type the TRAX LIST before I do the rest of the weekly note, and while typing, I realized I had "I Can Help" by Billy Swan on the list twice. Now, it must be a mistake on the program log I thought. So I played the finished program back and guess what? I actually did play the tune twice......as I said last week, a mind is a terrible thing to loose..... This is a FIRST for me - I guess I picked up the CD and reloaded it, and was so intent on staying ahead of the music that I did not even twig to having played it just 15 or so minutes earlier. So, you get a double play - unintentionally! Some great music this week - all but one played only once - you can rewind any time you like to hear any tune again and again and again..... Congratulations to James Murphy on the announcement of his new venture coming in 2012 - SMILE 101 - a streaming radio station that I just know is going to be a huge success. And you heard it here, almost first! Next week, our Remembrance Day Program. Thanks for listening and supporting us here at CKW. Have a great week....... October 26, 2011 01:54 PM PDT
Friends: This week, a DOUBLE PLAY PODCAST from CKW. First, tune in to PODCAST 255 for some of the GREATEST MUSIC OF ALL TIME. This week, because I decided to do a music podcast for those who would rather skip the Halloween podcast, I pulled some of the tunes from the archives that I have either not played ever, or have not played for a good long time. So, no Sound-a-thon this week - but great music nonetheless. And....for those who really need their HALLOWEEN fix - tune in to PODCAST 256 for this year's offering. Please remember that this podcast may not be suitable for all members of the family. I hope you enjoy it if hoots, howls, growls and eerie noises are "your thing!" Have a very HAPPY AND SAFE HALLOWEEN. WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDDIES, AND STAY OFF MY LAWN (LOL) Now, click on the links and enjoy over two hours of rock and talk..... Cheers Don..... Friends: All I can say is thank goodness for back-up discs - I am a slow learner and have been "burned" more than once, but now that I am recording my show directly to the computer, I still record to a back-up disc, just in case. Well, again this week, the computer quit working and the back-up disc came to the rescue. Whew!!! There is nothing more frustrating than to be doing a program which ends up being all for naught - and early in the history of this little hobby station, that happened a lot! This week, some great hits from the archives including a long forgotten tune by Tony Fisher - and when you hear it, you will realize just how long ago these tunes were actually on the air, and what was happening in our world way back then. Al is here on the 20's with the new sound of Retrospective (how many more weeks can I call it "new"?) - James is here with Motown and More, Michael at the bottom of the hour with Rock and Roll News, and Al again at 50 with Sport De Jour. Me??? I simply hit the buttons at the right time and play the music. Simple, right???!!! Click on the link and come along with us for a fast paced 75 minutes of ROCK AND TALK - SOME OF THE GREATEST MUSIC OF ALL TIME - right here on the weekly podcast from CKW (powered by donspodradio) Thanks for tuning us in... Podcast SummaryOnce each week, Big Daddy Donald Roberts brings you 75 minutes of GOLDEN OLDIES from www.donspodradio.com. Listen to some of the greatest tunes ever recorded, every week! Al Murphy visits on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - a 20/20 look back on issues of interest to Al, and hopefully you as well. Al also returns later in the program with SPORT DE JOUR - a look at everything "sport."
Big Daddy fills in all the gaps with light banter and awesome music.
About Donald RobertsBig Daddy Donald Roberts: I am a retired print plant manager, who has a love of music and radio - in 1967 I went to broadcasting school, and earned my diploma. Then real life kicked in, and I found a job at a printing company, where I stayed for the next 38 years. I have always had some kind of home studio, and it is there where donspodradio was born. Now I can do what I love, and do it for people who also love the music and listen to the program each week. Al Murphy is also a retiree from the same company - I was in Manufacturing and he in Human Resources! Al resides in Fergus, Ontario, which is a little bit west of Toronto - I on the other hand, live in Coquitlam, British Columbia, a bedroom community of Vancouver. When I started the donspodradio websites back in February, 2006, Al was the very first visitor - it wasn't long before he had recorded some promos for the station, and as they say, the rest is history. Now, every week Al drops by on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - his look back at issues of interest to him, and I hope, you as well. Every once in a while, Al either co-hosts a program, or takes over entirely - and his love of the music and information of the times shows through! It takes a bit of engineering to stretch the string tight between the two tin can microphones that link our studios, but it is well worth the effort as I am sure you will agree. So, please join us weekly, as we rock to the sounds of GREAT OLDIES - 65 minutes each week right here! Over THREE years in podcasting, and still going strong! We hope you enjoy the weekly program and will take the time to email us at dpr.adio@hotmail.com or through this service provider. Rock on. The Real Big Daddy, Donald Roberts, and the Little Irishman, Al Murphy.
