PODCAST 154 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW - THE BEATLE BLAST
June 29, 2009 10:21 PM PDT
Friends: Here comes the BEATLE BLAST from DonsPodRadio/CKW. This week, a full 40 minutes of nothing but Beatle Hits! And then, a quick turn to CANCON (Canadian Content) for a wee celebration of CANADA DAY which is, of course, Wednesday, July 1. To everyone who emailed regarding the two British Invasion podcasts - thanks for your kind words. Those two programs took many hours to assemble and mix just right, and it is nice to get acknowledgements from you, our faithful listeners and site visitors. The podcast site powered by PODOMATIC has been so popular that it ran out of bandwidth just past the half way mark of the month and I have now upgraded to the next level of service. This means that the site will now carry more shows in archives and will provide plenty of bandwidth for the increased download traffic from both Podomatic and ITunes. It is great to see this level of activity and growth. I am now into the summer months of podcasting and will broadcast during the weeks I am not on the road. I will do my best to keep you all informed as to the summer schedule of podcasts from DonsPodRadio. And yes, podcast 155 will be on schedule next week. Have a great summer and remember - be wise under the sun! Slip, Slap, Slop and Seek. Slip on a shirt, Slap on a hat, Slop on the Sunscreen, and Seek out the Shade. See you all next week. HAPPY CANADA DAY FROM EVERYONE HERE AT DONSPODRADIO/CKW Cheers Don Visit the main DONSPODRADIO website - www.donspodradio.com

Friends: First, a big thank-you to everyone who in some way expressed their appreciation for last week's podcast. I will let you in on a little production secret - podcasts like these, featuring both Al and James take a very long time to mix, however when it is all done, the results are well worth the time taken to get it "just right!" This week, I spent another significant block of time mixing the second program in the British Invasion series and I know you will enjoy the results! OK, OK, I know I goofed last week! I was so focused on the British Invasion program and working with Al and James, that I totally forgot that Sunday was Fathers' Day. So, albeit late, here is my heartfelt wish that your day was special indeed, and that you had a very Happy Fathers' Day. I have taken my 30 lashes with a wet swimming pool noodle and am repentant. In every show, there is a spot that should probably be a "do over" and if you listen carefully, you will hear one of those - right before the first Retrospective Commentary by Al. I am so confused - is it 2 or is it 3? Listen to find out! The TV Tune of the week this week is a cute ditty from an old BBC series that made it across the pond to Canada via the CBC. Have a listen and see if you can identify this week's tune. Friends new and old make my job so easy, and really fun too. Al Murphy and I go back a number of years to careers at Moore Corporation - I in manufacturing and he in human resources! When we retired, Al and I kept in touch and when he heard my first podcast, way back in time, he jumped on the podcast bandwagon and has been a permanent fixture on the shows ever since. Nothing, and I repeat, nothing I have asked of Al, has he ever turned down. So, when I need yet another labour of love to pull together a special podcast (or series) Al is always there to do whatever I need. Thanks Al. Just a few short months ago, I met James Murphy on the internet - he had been listening to my podcasts and caught the podcast "bug." After a number of email messages back and forth by way of not only introduction, but then on to more technical information, we became "cyber-friends" - each supporting the other's programming on the internet. James has not let me down either, recording promotional material for my shows, and just a couple of weeks ago, agreeing to help Al and I roll out the British Invasion podcasts. I have never met James face to face, but am hoping that some day this might be possible. I have never been to England, but in retirement, it just may fit nicely into my travel itinerary and I can visit James during one of his disco nights at a club. The internet is a wonderful place where people like me can share a passion for music and fun with the world! And a wee part of the world is listening, and you are a part of it. So, thank-you all for tuning in to the podcasts, sending the email messages of support, and clicking on the websites. Oh, and one more thing - to Art Kollee - thanks for getting the creative juices flowing. Without your suggestion, these programs probably would have never been done. Next week, a BEATLE BLAST - for about 50 minutes, and then a little bit of Canada, as we look ahead a day or two to CANADA DAY. What are you waiting for - click on the player and join the BRITISH INVASION from donspodradio.com See you all next week. Cheers Don Visit the main DONSPODRADIO website - www.donspodradio.com

Friends: We have been promoting these podcasts for some weeks now, and the time is finally here to roll out the first of two podcasts entitled THE BRITISH INVASION. If you have never clicked on the player before, or have not listened to a podcast for some time now, this is one you really should listen to! Mr. Retrospective himself, Al Murphy joins me in presenting some of the best music ever to play on North American Rock Radio. And, to round out the cast, Mr. James Murphy (People Hold On Podcast) also joins us as our "token Brit" for these programs. So, if you think that stretching the string between the DPR/CKW tin can microphones between Al in Fergus and me out here on the west coast is a rather nifty feat of engineering, then listen to hear what it sound like as it crosses the pond to the south of England to link James to the podcast. All I can say is WOW! Imagine doing this a mere 10 years ago! Al, James and I spin some fabulous tunes from the British Invasion era, and of course, feature Retrospective on the 20's, Rock and Roll News at the bottom of the hour and the ever popular TV tune of the week. There is only one more thing I have to say about these podcasts - Thanks Al and James for making my work rather easy this week - all I had to do was push the buttons, talk a wee bit, and listen to some great music. So, why don't you join me....click on one of the websites and then click again on a player - turn the sound way up and then ENJOY! From the Daily Smile - I used to be a lifeguard, but some blue kid got me fired PODCAST 151 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW
June 09, 2009 08:40 PM PDT
To all my Podcast Listeners and Site Visitors: Here comes Podcast 151 and another chance for me to spin some of the best tunes I have in the archives - tunes you may not hear on commercial radio but music that was and maybe still is a part of our musical heritage. I would like to thank my neighbour, who fired up his pressure washer just as I started this week's show - this time it was next door (no Brent, not you!) and not across the street, like a few weeks ago. So, I closed all the windows, shut the curtains, suffered the heat of the room and got the job done! I think I managed to eliminate the background noise. If you are wondering where Rollie has gone, he is on a golf course somewhere - hockey season is all but over and he is on an extended vacation. And speaking of hockey, did anyone think that Pittsburgh would force a 7th and final game in this year's Stanley Cup Final? I am sure Friday's game in Detroit will be a barn burner! Al Murphy is still very much here, and his Retrospective commentary is heard on the 20's - this week's commentary is "must listen to" material! Michael Godin is also still on board with three minutes of the latest in Rock and Roll news at the bottom of the hour. A friend of mine asked for a tune by Keith Hampshire - a tune I had never heard before. Listen around the 12 minute mark for this new oldie (new to me!). Oh, and some great news! Next week, I will be featuring the first of two podcasts - THE BRITISH INVASION! Art Kollee, a faithful listener, was the one who spawned the idea, and of course, when a listener talks, we listen! So, for Art, and for the rest of you too, some great tunes and hopefully, some wonderful musical memories as well. To everyone who has made this podcast successful, I huge thank-you! I never thought I would be still going strong and growing weekly. Until next week, when we wrap ourselves in the Union Jack, thanks for listening and visiting the web sites. Stay cool! From the Daily Smile - Do ten millipedes equal one centipede? PODCAST 150 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW
June 02, 2009 09:12 PM PDT
No fanfare, no big deal really - but we do turn the "odometer" over from the 140's to the 150's this week, and add yet another podcast to the ever growing archives. To all our listeners who pushed us over the top last month here on Podomatic, I thank you - the podcast is increasing in it's popularity week to week, and I may have to purchase more bandwidth if this continues - a really great problem to have. Podomatic was kind enough to sponsor a week of extra bandwidth so the program could continue. Thanks Podomatic! Sorry I missed you all last week - and I really did miss doing the weekly podcast! I was under the weather for most of the week, and had absolutely minimal voice and it really hurt to talk! So, even though I hated to do it, I took the week off to rest and recuperate. My voice is still coming from way down there somewhere, but the worst of this summer cold is gone and I am feeling much better. Some super tunes this week and I know you will enjoy this podcast. Rollie is gone now until hockey season in September, but over the summer months, we will be digging into the archives for some feature material to fill his time slot. Al and Michael are both here - and Al's very special Retrospective on the Codes of D-Day is must listen to material. So, I hope you all enjoy the podcast and to those who emailed me with get well wishes - a huge thanks! Now, click on the play button and enjoy. Until next Week Bib Daddy Donald Roberts..... PODCAST 149 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW
May 20, 2009 11:06 PM PDT
Friends: I always enjoy short weeks! Monday was a holiday for most of us and the trek to Friday is made that much easier as a result. I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. This week marks the last podcast in the 140's with podcast 149. Next week, the DPR/CKW "odometer" clicks over into the 15's with program 150! I find it hard to believe that we are closing in on a very special podcast (156) which will mark three years of (almost) weekly podcasts from DonsPodRadio. When I started this venture back in February 2006, little did I know that the audience would continue to grow and that I would still be doing weekly programs. I thought that the novelty would have worn off a long time ago. Well, not so! Download numbers continue to amaze me, and almost every week I hear from new listeners who have picked us up while browsing the internet. This week, some great tunes from the shack out back! Canadian television journalist Rick Mercer pays a visit around the 10 minute mark of the show, Al Murphy is on the 20's with Retrospective - this week the Lady of Stavoren - Michael Godin at the bottom of the hour with Rock and Roll News, and Rollie the Goalie at 50 with his look at all things hockey. THIS WEEK, THE TV TUNE OF THE WEEK IS DROP DEAD SIMPLE if you are a true Canadian. Have a listen and I will bet that after the first couple of notes you will be saying, "Ah yes, it's the theme from the ------------" (You will have to listen to find out!) If you have the ability to record a comment for us to play on the upcoming third birthday party program - podcast 156 - have a go and send it along. MP3 files are easy to create and can be attached to any email. Send along your thoughts! I will play them on the show! Thanks to those who keep me in the Email loop each week - with stories, jokes, pictures and video. I cannot acknowledge them all, but I do peruse them all! And for inviting us into your homes each week, we are truly appreciative - it is a privilege to entertain you. So, until next we meet, why not click on the show and ROCK ON! Cheers Don Visit the main DONSPODRADIO website - www.donspodradio.com
From the Daily Smile - You have the right to remain silent, anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you. PODCAST 148 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW
May 14, 2009 08:22 PM PDT
Friends: What a busy week at the old bus depot! This week, the Vancouver Children's Festival is on at Vanier Park - one of the more scenic spots in all Vancouver - on the banks of English Bay overlooking the Georgia Strait and Vancouver Island. Freighters at anchor dot the seascape and small craft ply the protected waters of False Creek all the way up to the Science Centre at it's end. Our company is contracted to transport school aged children, teachers and parent volunteers to and from the festival. So, needless to say, I have been very busy behind the wheel of my bus 2766. OK, that was the excuse for missing Wednesday, but today, I had just enough time to get the podcast done and now it is on the sites for your listening pleasure. Thanks to everyone who is following me on Facebook and Twitter! What a crazy world we live in - a world where you can have your say in 140 characters or less! Tweet, Tweet! Some great music this week and I thank you for making my job of programming the show easier with requests. Share your jokes, stories and pictures by responding to this email or by clicking on the mailbox on the main page of the website. And now, ladies and gentlemen, Big Daddy Donald Roberts with Podcast 148. Enjoy and thanks for allowing us to visit you again this week. Cheers Don Visit the main DONSPODRADIO website - www.donspodradio.com
From the Daily Smile - Follow your dreams, except for that one where you're naked at work. |
Podcast SummaryOnce each week, Big Daddy Donald Roberts along with that Little Irishman Al Murphy bring you a full hour of great GOLDEN OLDIES from www.donspodradio.com. Listen to some of the greatest tunes ever recorded, every week! Al Murphy visits on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - a 20/20 look back on issues of interest to Al, and hopefully you as well.
Big Daddy fills in all the gaps with light banter and awesome music.
About DonaldBig Daddy Donald Roberts: I am a retired print plant manager, who has a love of music and radio - in 1967 I went to broadcasting school, and earned my diploma. Then real life kicked in, and I found a job at a printing company, where I stayed for the next 38 years. I have always had some kind of home studio, and it is there where donspodradio was born. Now I can do what I love, and do it for people who also love the music and listen to the program each week. Al Murphy is also a retiree from the same company - I was in Manufacturing and he in Human Resources! Al resides in Fergus, Ontario, which is a little bit west of Toronto - I on the other hand, live in Coquitlam, British Columbia, a bedroom community of Vancouver. When I started the donspodradio websites back in February, 2006, Al was the very first visitor - it wasn't long before he had recorded some promos for the station, and as they say, the rest is history. Now, every week Al drops by on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - his look back at issues of interest to him, and I hope, you as well. Every once in a while, Al either co-hosts a program, or takes over entirely - and his love of the music and information of the times shows through! It takes a bit of engineering to stretch the string tight between the two tin can microphones that link our studios, but it is well worth the effort as I am sure you will agree. So, please join us weekly, as we rock to the sounds of GREAT OLDIES - 65 minutes each week right here! Over THREE years in podcasting, and still going strong! We hope you enjoy the weekly program and will take the time to email us at dpr.adio@hotmail.com or through this service provider. Rock on. The Real Big Daddy, Donald Roberts, and the Little Irishman, Al Murphy.
